NUCLEIC ACID EXTRACTION AND QUALITY CONTROL

Qiagen TissueLyser

Used for efficient homogenization of tissue samples and for improved yields. The TissueLyser uses steal beads for disruption of the samples.

Maxwell 16 System

Offers automated walk-away nucleic acid and recombinant protein extraction and purification. The system processes 1 to 16 samples in 30-45 minutes. Achieve consistent yield and purity, hands-on time and labor savings and improved workflow.

SPEX SamplePrep Model 2000 Geno/Grinder

The SPEX SamplePrep Model 2000 Geno/Grinder is a new laboratory mill specifically designed for vigorous up-and-down shaking of deep-well titer plates. It is typically used to prepare tissue for extractions of nucleic acid, protein, and other constituents by shaking tissue, steel balls, and a buffering agent together in each well of the titre plate.

FujiFilm QuickGene 810

Automatic extraction of up to 8 samples on membrane columns. After preparation of the samples extraction of RNA from tissue is performed in approximately 15 minutes.

NanoDrop ND-1000 Spectrophotometer

An excellent instrument to measure the concentration of DNA, RNA and protein. To some degree, purity from phenol and proteins in RNA samples can also be evaluated. The NanoDrop uses only about 1µl of the sample and there is no risk of contamination of the original sample.

NanoDrop ND-3300 Fluorospectrometer

Gives a full-spectrum analysis of fluorescence emission (400-750nm), for measuring fluorophores and reagents.

Agilent BioAnalyzer 2100

Automatic electrophoresis systems that can analyze integrity of RNA samples by looking at 18S and 28S ribosomal RNA. Up to 12 samples can be run simultaneously and approximately 2µl of RNA is used.

Bio-Rad Experion Automated Electrophoresis system

Automatic electrophoresis systems that can analyze integrity of RNA samples by looking at 18S and 28S ribosomal RNA. Up to 12 samples can be run simultaneously and approximately 2µl of RNA is used.

LIQUID HANDLING

Corbett Robotics CAS-1200

CAS-1200 pipetting station allows you to rapidly and reliably perform your pipetting automatically, preventing human mistakes. The station uses a single-channel pipette to automate PCR setup, e.g. distribute mastermixes and add samples. Up to 96 PCR reactions can be set up in approximately 30 minutes.

The instrument worktable is set up with a Master Mix Block, a Reagent Block, tips, and plates/tubes. Conductive tips enable high-precision pipetting with liquid level sensing. The software, which is operated on a PC next to the robot, is easy to learn and use. During the run the position of the pipetting head is highlighted on the screen as it moves, allowing the progress of a run to be followed in real-time. A feature that allows samples concentrations to be imported to the software directly from a text file is excellent when normalizing RNA or DNA concentrations. Other helpful features can be used when performing serial dilutions with variable dilution ratios or optimizing assays.

Eppendorf 5070

epMotion automated pipetting systems. Sample or reagent transfer, assay set-up or nucleic acid extraction. Accurate - From 1 µl to 1000 µl

BioTX WellAware Pipetting Systems

These personal automation systems use the BioTX Lab Suite softwares four modules to automate many common laboratory tasks. The WellAware Module is for the setup of sorting and hit picking operations, and for the pipetting of electronic Standard Operating Procedures (eSOPs) made in other modules. The WellAware Module with a PC, monitor and footswitch allows for light and voice guided manual pipetting or sorting of an eSOP. The Protocol Module is used to generate eSOPs for PCR, Sequencing, ELISA and Genotyping protocols. The Norm Module is for eSOP setup of DNA & protein normalizations and for serial dilutions. The Labeling Module is for the printing of barcode labels for vials, plates and other items.

Stratagene Mx3005P

Mx3005P is a flexible instrument with a 96 well format. The platform uses a single-scanning fiber optic head which eliminates optical variation by measuring the excitation intensity and emission from well to well. The optic head design ensures that each well receives the same amount of excitation light at the same length of time. Each well is also the same distance from the detector during measuring. Four optical channels with user-selected filters that cover a broad range of excitation wavelengths makes it possible to use most fluorescent dyes.

The Mx3005P software is easy to use due to the intuitive interface, quick experiment design, powerful data analysis and easy report generation.

Due to the flexibility the systems are ideal for a wide variety of applications and chemistries. For example:

  • Gene Expression Analysis
  • Microarray Data Validation
  • SNP Genotyping
  • Pathogen Detection

CENTRIFUGES

Eppendorf 5804

The comprehensive, modular accessory program covers separation in PCR tube strips and 1.5/2 ml test tubes as well as high-volume centrifugation of Falcon® tubes, flasks and filter plate systems.
